We shouldn't worry about the leavers so much. They are the same type of player that goes to the Ascalon arena with drok's armor and echo meteor shower/barrage/[insert elite here].
Honestly, if you have to leave and leave and leave and leave until you get a group that "totally PWNS" then kudos to you for being able to beat the system.
I actually went to the Ascalon arena once (with my lvl 10 monk) only to find people complaning that the group that kept winning was on a 67 streak...the group was all wearing drok's and were all using elites.
/slightly off topic (but notice the similarities)
My borther in law coaches little leauge. There are a few teams that they play every year that are totally leet. Those few teams usually have 2 or 3 players that are over the age bracket (ie 12-13 year olds playing against 10-11 year olds). I think it is really awsome that their teams is so good, but they had to cheat to get it.

RA is crap anyways, I only go in there if I want an ego boost or if I'm testing out a totally foreign build for the first time. The majority of the time, this is what my team consits of.
1. Myself
2. W/Mo w/ Mending and/or Live Vicariously
3. E/Me Echo Meteor Storm Nuker <--- Ownage!
4. N/MO Of course the MM, wtf
Or the team consist of different variations, for example 2 Wammos 1 nuker, etc.

No doubt you are the cause for a lot of leaving then. Good game, sir.

I leave RA sometimes actually. For various reasons:
1. Someone draws a penis, swastika, or just scribbles madly without end on the radar.
2. I get teamed with a level 16 player who will obviously be assist trained into oblivion instantly.
3. That stupid map with the river of lava comes up for the 3rd time in a freakin' row....can't remember the name of it right now but I'll usually leave if both teams just stare at each other for 45 seconds or more.
4. I'm the only one dead and its been 20 seconds with no rez.
5. I'm playing a mesmer and I am teamed up with 3 warriors...not even fun to try more often than not.
6. There's a runner as the last one standing on my team.
7. 3+ monks/healers, no smiters.
There are other reasons I will leave but I feel most of them are legit. I like RA and enjoy getting into teams of an unknown build....there are just certain situations I know will go badly and/or stupidly so I would rather not waste my time with them.
To clarify, I always wait and say "gg" at the end, I always bring a rez and (unless I am tired or spacing out) I use it, I change builds multiple times during the nights that I play, and I never just leave because my team doesn't have a healer.
This being said, I would happily take a negative 10-20 faction penalty each time I leave (including game exiting, crashing, etc.) just to reduce the ammount of leaving I've been seeing lately. I might leave 3-4 times in a 2-4 hour session...maybe. I can't remember a night that I've left more than 5 times before giving up entirely...
So yes, give me a penalty for leaving. I'll take it and love it because it would make sure that every time I leave, I really believe it's worth it
EDIT: Maybe charge people 25 faction to enter the arena and then give a +25 faction bonus at the end of the first match....consider it collateral

I spend as little time as possible in RA because of it's lameness. I will go into RA while waiting my turn for GvG, practicing my build assignment before a gvg fight. Does that mean I'm part of the problem? GvG builds may not be applicable for arenas, and I may not be comfortable with the skills (which is why I'm in RA to begin with).
But I can't stand lametards that sacrifice themselves to 1 HP. Or people that quit as soon as they see there is no monk on the team. Or quitters that leave as soon as they die. Or idiots that don't bring something as simple as a res signet.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there has been a lot more leavers lately. It seems like 3 out of 5 matchs I play in has a leaver on one team or the other, but that's not as bad as the player that is about to get killed who leaves...grrr...whatever! It's just a game right

Ahhh, here is one of them now! Let me pick at this post a bit - I won't even go into the "legitimate reasons for leaving".

So let's do the math shall we? Ok, here we go:
Beat_Go_Stick leaves 4 times in 2 hours (upper limit). That is once every thirty minutes he does not find a team to his liking.
Now, a random arena match might take from 1.5 minute to 15 depending on relative skill and build, but let's be reasonable and say that a match lasts on average 6 minutes. This means that a player on a loosing streak might churn through ten groups/matches in an hour (even provided there are no leavers). This means that 2 quits per hour becomes a roughly 20% chance for Beat_Go_Stick to leave a given group.
Further, consider that there are 8 players in a single match, each of which might be just like Beat_Go_Stick, namely people that leave 2 times an hour. Now, the probability of not getting a drop is (0.8^8) = 0.17.
Yes indeed. If everyone behaved as Beat_Go_Stick, the chance of a match without leavers is 17%
Ok, so I use the upper limit, some nasty assumptions about match length and frequency and a player that is constantly loosing, but still - I think the math does the problem justice.

Those are acceptable but if your in a perfectly good team and just leave, all i have to ask is WHy? if any one out there thinks this is "fun" then you might need to change game.

I'm not even going to touch on the subject of leaving, rather the quality of the groups these days. I used to be able to go 10+ about once every 10 groups, if not better. Now I'm lucky to go 5+ every 10 groups. Too many people just plain suck.

Just a random note of positivity:
I have been blessed with the good fortune of being being teamed with some kickass players when someone's dropped in the first couples seconds of a match. I can think of a few times where 'xxx has left the game,' and instead of despairing of our certain doom, we manned up and kicked some ass. I've won a surprising number of 3v4's...and damn, it feels good.
So when someone drops from your team, don't give up so soon...fight the good fight, and you might well come out on top.

Gotta love it when you win with 3v4. On the other hand it really burns my chips when you get a leaver/afk'er and 5 seconds later you are the only one left on the team. What could have been a great opportunity to win at 3v4 turns into a crap attempt at 1v4.
